1. Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA currently leads the Pool C with 3 wins out of 3 games, and against Maribor they want to confirm their solitary leadership in the standing, which is essential to ensure the qualification for the next phase.

2. The Italian team, which a week ago was unexpectedly eliminated by Milan in the quarter-finals of the Italian National Cup, is back from two important 3-0 victories in the National League, which have consolidated their second place in the standings behind the leader Perugia.

3. The coach Gianlorenzo Blengini cannot yet count on the entire roster available: the injured players  Osmany Juantorena and Jiri Kovar (both Italian Olympians) will be absent also on this coming Wednesday.

4. In its prestigious international history, Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA has only once been defeated in a home match with a Slovenian team: it happened in the 2009/2010 edition of the Champions League, when ACH Volley Bled won the tie break in the return match of the round of 16, getting the pass for the next round with great surprise.

“This game against Maribor is very important in terms of qualifying for the next round, because in a strong Pool like ours at the end even a simple detail could make the difference for the leadership in the standing.Champions League is a very important season goal for our club, and after our elimination from the National Cup it has become even more important for us to qualify for the play off phase as leaders of the Pool”.

Match Report

Impeccable, Lube with a huge step towards the next phase of CLVolleyM

Article

The reigning Italian champions of Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA made a huge step towards qualification to the quarterfinals of #CLVolleyM, as this Wednesday the players coached by Gianlorenzo Blengini recorded their fourth consecutive win in Pool C, and remain unbeaten with 11 points to their names.

In front of home crowds in Eurosuole Forum, Lube outclassed in three sets the Slovenian OK Merkur MARIBOR, who are yet to record a victory in the group.

Entering the match with the goal of keeping the first position in Pool C, the Italian squad showed domination on the court throughout the whole match, with only the third set being a tight one.

Blengini could not count on the entire roster: the injured players  Osmany Juantorena and Jiri Kovar (both Italian Olympians, recovering from injuries) were missing, but in their absences, their teammates showed great spirit and worked as an well-oiled machine. Ivan Zaytsev, Robertlandy Simon and the libero Fabio Balaso started on the bench, replaced by the opposite to Puerto Rico Gabi Garcia, the middle blocker Enrico Diamantini and Andrea Marchisio.

This win is a very important one for Lube ahead of their next two important fixtures in Pool C - against the Russian Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and the Polish Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE.

“I’m very happy both about our approach to the game and for the final win. This confirms our first position in the Pool now. We still have two games - for sure, they will be the tough ones, so we must remain focused, because in the end, maybe the small details will make the difference when it comes to the qualification to quarterfinals”.

MARLON YANT
Player of Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA

“Every game, every point, is a big step towards qualification to the next round, and for the tournament in general. This win tonight is like a booster of confidence for us, for our next two games, and we hope to go and win them. We are meeting next our strongest opponents in the Pool, but we also have a lot of talent. This is my first season in Italy, it’s quite different from the USA. It was hard for me in the beginning, but with the help of my teammates, the transition was smooth.”
