Knack Roeselare
On Thursday 10 November, Knack ROESELARE will serve the new CEV Champions League Volley 2023 season in the Tomabelhal. With Lube Civitanova, VB Tours and Sport Lisboa e Benfica, the Belgian team are in a ‘southern’ group.
The Italian team of Lube Civitanova are of course the most exciting name but for their first game against VB Tours, Knack Roeselare are best at the appointment right away.It has been a while since Knack Roeselare officially crossed swords with VB Tours. And that was for a simple reason: in recent years, both teams were invariably in the same cup in the drawing of lots. Yet they regularly faced each other: during the preparation of the new season, they were each other's sparring partners almost every year.
Knack Roeselare and Tours VB contested their last Champion League matches in the 2005-2006 season in the Play Off 12: a breathtaking, crazy 3-2 win at home (15-13 in the fifth set) but finally they were knocked out by the French with a 3-0 loss in Tours.Knack Volley will play a little against their reflection on Thursday.
VB Tours is a real tradition club, both in its own strong French League (8 titles, 10 cups and 4 super cups) and European: Champions League winner in 2005 and CEV Cup winner in 2017. Also this year, they will compete again on all fronts. In the French League, they are currently second behind Chaumont. VB Tours are a solid team without roaring names but very difficult to disrupt.
Yet one eye-catcher is already a reason enough to come down to the Tomabelhal on Thursday: opposite Aboubacar Dramé Neto, Abouba for the friends, a Brazilian left-handed block of granite. The match of Thursday will be special for yet another reason. Knack Roeselare will play their 150th Champions League match in their 21st season in the prestigious CEV Champions League. Knack Roeselare counts on the massive support of their enthusiastic fans for this topper.
A Champions League match in a packed Tomabelhal is always magical. Both teams are in top form and spectacle of the highest level is already guaranteed. Despite the very solid performances against Maaseik and Gent in their last two matches, coach Steven Vanmedegael is very clear: “To win against Tours, we have to play even better and faster, serve even harder and attack even harder”. So it becomes hard against unsoft. What else did you expect: this is Champions League, the cream of the (volleyball) crop!
