  • After losing the first two Champions League games against last season’s finalists Trentino and Kedzierzyn, Decospan Menen now wants to take its first points against Karlovarsko. The winner of this game between the ‘outsiders’ of Pool D takes an option on the third place and corresponding ticket for the CEV Cup.
  • Decospan Menen did not win one set in Champions League so far, whereas Karlovarsko won one set in both Champions League games. The home team eventually starts this encounter as the favourite.
  • Not counting the Champions League, Decospan Menen now has a winning streak of 3 games (2 League games against Tectum Achel and Caruur Gent + Cup game against Wijgmaal).
  • Karlovarsko’s setter Wessel KEEMINK and Decospan’s setter Seppe VAN HOYWEGHEN and head coach Frank DEPESTELE were teammates at Lindemans Aalst in 2017/2018.
  • Decospan Menen’s former setter Daan VAN HAARLEM used to play in Karlovarsko in 2018/2019.
  • In this season of CEV Champions League Volley we have played two top teams from our group and managed to be an equal opponent to them. The game with Polish champions was decided in late fourth set and we were not far from getting our first points. In our desperately sold out arena we played an exciting match against Trentino Itas and took one set to our side.
  • In Czech league we had very successful first part of season, in 12 games we were able to win every single one and at the moment we have 3-point lead to the second team in the standings.
  • Just like us, Belgian team is still waiting for the first victory in the CEV Champions League Volley. They lost both games against Trentino and Kozle 0:3. We expect an interesting game, in which we would like to take the first victory in our group front of our fans.
  • It is a tradition in our club, that the whole team is fund-raising for the MOVEMBER foundation. Players game money from their team fine-treasure and the whole club is trying to collect as much possible by auctioning, selling tickets for games and voluntary donations.
  • At the moment, our most productive player in Champions League is Kewin Sasak with 36 points.

“We hope to grab one or more points in this game. It would be ideal in the battle for the third place, since we play our last Champions League game at home against Karlovarsko. Advancing to the CEV Cup was our goal before the start of this Champions League and it remains so. Even if our cup game against Waremme next Saturday is another big goal. If we can play a solid match in the Czech Republic, we can start the semifinals of the Belgian Cup with confidence.”

Frank Depestele
Head Coach Decospan VT MENEN

"Deconspan VT Menen is starting to improve which brought the club some important victories. Their game is based on avoiding unforced mistakes, playing a lot of tips and being patient. I would say that our game style is similar in some aspects and the way we begin the match and continue to be more aggressive to get the score to our side. This is not a game in which we have nothing to lose, we think and talk about victory. "
