Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE

"We are aware that it will be extremely difficult to make up for the losses from the first match, but this is volleyball and we want to make another surprise this season in Kędzierzyn. For me, these are always special matches, because in this hall I won the greatest successes in my career"

Dawid Konarski
Spiker Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE

"We know that everyone cares about winning against us, so we try to be 100 percent prepared and not think about the match we won a week ago. Zawiercie will definitely bet everything on one card, and the team is in good shape, which was confirmed by a convincing win over PSG Nysa. We have to eliminate their strengths in the reception and try to stop Kovacevic and Konarski"

Michał Chadała
Assistant Coach Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE

"ZAKSA is a very good team that we respect a lot. But we go there and we have nothing to lose. We lost there in PlusLiga in a very bad way. We had a victory in our hands, we played much better. But this is completely new situation, Champions League decisive game and it has nothing to do with the last game we played there. If everybody gives 110% or 120%, we have some chances. We have to use all our weapons. Now I feel much better physically than I was 7 days ago."

Match Report

Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE take two sets from Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE to proceed ahead

Article

The match began with a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

The beginning was highlighted by mistakes by both teams on the serve. The two-point advantage of the guests eliminate the attacks, including the service ace of Bartosz Bednorz (5-5) effective challenge of coach Sammelvuo).

The point-for-point fight lasted until 15-15 (7-:7,10010, 13-13,). Zaksa gained a two-point lead after Kovacevic's spoilt attack (17015). Although Warta Zawiercie equalized at 20-20 and took over the initiative after Patryk Łaba's service ace (23-22), the fight for the win lasted many more minutes. Finally, after 31 minutes of the game and the action of Aleksander Śliwka, ZAKSA won the opening set 28:26. In the first set, both teams risked serving and committed a total of 15 errors in this element of the game.

Warta Zawiercie did not give up the risky service and after Michał Szałacha's service ace they jumped ahead to 12-9 and after a mistake in the defence of the hosts started leading at 15-10.

Aluron maintained the point-lead despite the fact that the hosts bounced back diminishing the advantage to two points (19-21, 21-23) and thanks to Patryk Łaba's service ace, they won the second set 25-21 levelling the score to 1-1.

The third set was a "volleyball battle". Powerful serves and short and quick attacks pleased more than two thousand fans gathered in the Azoty hall. Until 20-18 none of the teams managed to gain more than 1-2 point lead. This was changed by two blocks on Kwolek performed by Marcin Janusz and Dawid Smith. Zaksa managed to make bigger the advantage to 22-18. Kwolek, however, rehabilitated himself a moment later and recorded a service ace, and the loss of the visiting team decreased to one point (22-23).

The experienced ZAKSA, however, did not let the victory and promotion to the CEV CL quarter-finals be snatched away and won the set 25-23 with a successful counterattack.

In the fourth set, the coaches gave a chance to enter the court to the players from the so-called “second sixes”. Aluron's substitutes were better from the beginning and managed to take the lead 7-5 after Patryk Łaba's service ace and increased the advantage to six points by blocking Wojciech Żaliński on the wing (17-11). A rather bizarre situation took place at 14-19. ZAKSA coach asked for a challenge by reporting touching a block what was not confirmed. The challenge was lost even though the visitors made a mistake in this action because they touched the net at the block. The team from Zawiercie confidently won the fourth set 25-19 and brought the game into a tiebreak.

It was a close call in the beginning of the fifth set. Mistakes in ZAKSA's defence gave Aluron an 8-5 lead and a moment later Łaba's service ace (9-5) and finally a "pyrrhic victory' 15-11 in the tie break.

“As expected, it was a very difficult match because the rivals put on a strong serve and it paid off. We told ourselves that we have to play carefully in blocking and defending, and it worked in the third set, when we blocked well in the end and I managed to finish important actions.”

Aleksander Śliwka
Captain of ZAKSA

“We may regret the Pool Phase more than these two games because we could finish it at higher place and did not have to play against ZAKSA. Despite the fact that we had some chances to beat them, we could have fought against less demanding rival. There were two very close battles, but they were better by two points in almost all sets. We finish the very first season of our club at Play Off phase, so we cannot be very happy, but we will learn from this experience for the future.”

Dawid KONARSKI
Captain of Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE
