    BERLIN Recycling Volleys v Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA

    Although both Berlin Recycling Volleys and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia are #CLVolleyM regulars, the quarterfinal game at Max-Schmeling-Halle was their first clash ever. The hosts started the match with no fear. Thus, the fans gathered at the venue and in front of TV could enjoy a fierce fight over the net. Powerful spikes from Plotnytskyi and impressive blocks from Rychlicki and Gianneli gave Perugia a 17-14 lead. With Plotnytskyi (2 aces in set 1) on the service line the Italian team improved it further, closing the part 25-18.

    The second set was a show of two Perugia's players - Oleh Plotnytskyi and Kamil Rychlicki, they made a difference, scoring as many as 5 and 6 points, respectively. Perugia was out of range for Berlin in this part, quickly jumping to a 16-8 lead. The hosts were more successful in block 5-2, but in all other components Perugia was dominant, winning the second set with a 10-point margin.

    Players from Berlin Recycling Volleys returned to the court eager to fight to prolong the game. Coach Enard Cedric modified his squad, giving a chance to Cody Kessel and it was a right call. The third set was a point-by-point race until 10-10. Then Perugia got a two point advantage, but Anton Brehme helped the hosts to tie. First he spiked and then served an ace, giving a spark to his teammates. Berlin took a 16-14 lead, but Perugia quickly made it up. The game continued as a fierce race to 23-23. A striking kill from Sotola (6 points in the 3rd set), gave the first set point to Berlin and an ace serve from Johannes Tille sealed the deal at 25-23.

    A tough game with Volleyball of the finest level started already at the beginning of the 4th set. After two successful spikes from Plotnytskyi and Rychlicki, Perugia took a 10-8 lead. And step by step, they started to enlarge the gap. With great teamwork they improved it to 17-12 and keeping the score safe they ended the game 25-18.

    Marek Sotola topped the scorers chart with 18 points (52% success in attack), having Perugia's trio: Kamil Rychlicki (16), Wilfredo Leon (16) and Oleh Plotnytskyi (15) behind him. Rychlicki who had 13 kills (also 52%), 3 aces and 3 blocks to his name was selected the MVP of the game.

    Cedric Enard, head coach of Berlin Recycling Volleys: "You could see the physical difference today. Perugia is known for serving power and they showed that here in our arena. We were under a pressure from the opponent the whole match, which we are not used to be. Nevertheless, Marek and Cody, after being substituted, for example, performed well. In the third set our block defense was more effective and so we could reward ourselves. Against this team you have to take so much risk, you can't succeed at everything. Perugia came here as the superior team in Europe and now we know why. We will try our best again in Italy, but it will be hard."
