Match Report

Volley MULHOUSE Alsace v Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST

Article

Already victorious in the first leg in Hungary, Mulhouse confirmed their superiority (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17) at the expense of Vasas Obuda Budapest. Thanks to this victory, the 14th in the Champions League, Mulhouse will follow the European adventure in the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup.

Vasas Obuda Budapest was never able to lead in a first set where Mulhouse made the difference at 13-12 by relying on its centres Léandra Olinga Andela, author of a flawless attack (3/3), and Silke Van Avermaet (6/8 and 2 blocks), to score four consecutive points (17-12). A gap that Budapest will never manage to fill (25-18).
At this point in the match, the Hungarians had no more room for error to hope to overtake Mulhouse in the standings. This constraint was reflected in a valiant resistance. With the exceptional performance of its leading striker, the American Taylor Bannister, Budapest had the illusion of being in the lead until 19-21. The double change made by the coach François Salvagni, by asking Julie Oliveira Souza to go up the block, allowed Mulhouse to reverse the situation (23-22) before two consecutive counters by Silke Van Avermaet and Hélène Rousseaux (25-23).
Still in search of a first victory in the Champions League, Budapest delayed the deadline by winning the 3rd set (21-25) but without managing to contest Mulhouse's superiority, which was concretised in the 4th set (25-17) under the impulse of Julie Oliveira Souza (6/13 in attack) and Hélène Rousseaux (5/7).
