Match Report

Vero Volley MILANO v SC "Prometey" DNIPRO

Article

The journey of Vero Volley Milano in the CEV Champions League 2023 begins with a good home success. At the Arena of Monza, in the first round of Group B, the Milanese team, still without Larson who had her first technical training with her teammates yesterday, beat the Ukrainian of SC Prometey Dnipro 3-0, signing their sixth victory of the season in front of the friendly crowd remaining unbeaten. Solid defense, great effectiveness in the block-defense (7 finals, of which 3 by Candi and 2 by Stevanovic), facilitated by the serving turns of Orro and Sylla in the first two games, Thompson, Begic and Davyskiba in the third and a lot of lucidity in the key moments, pave the way for Milan in a first set effectively approached by the guests. Despite the victory, the pinks needed concentration and attention to contain the away team, dangerous in the offensive phase with the unleashed left-handed Milenko and the positive Danchak and Savard to imitate her well. To penalize Dnipro, however, too many errors from nine meters in the first set (five) and the determined performance of Vero Volley, able to press on the accelerator pedal in the hot moments of the challenge, with Sylla, Thompson and Stysiak, accumulating a useful advantage to control the match until the end. Milan is now awaiting Sunday's big match against Novara, still in Brianza, while in the CEV Champions League it will perform again on December 21st in Romania against Alba Volei BLAJ.

“We are really happy for the result. We built and amazing victory against a team that demostrate to play a good volleyball. I think that our mentality made the difference: we were able to manage the game and be consisten in many situation. We are growing up little by little and we can continuing doing it".

Alessia Orro
Setter Vero Volley MILANO

"In the first set we missed 5 serves, making some mistakes in reception. If you don't pass the block for a while and you don't receive well, it becomes difficult to return. In the second and third set we started doing a good job, especially in block and defense, and we need to restart from that. We are not happy with the result but we don't come back home with the head down".
