Highlights
Overview
Following the victory last week A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano are on a 16-match winning run in the Champions League and approach the match with a confidence gained after stopping Novara’s run of 12 consecutive wins. Despite the loss last week, Novara can still qualify to the Super Final, if they beat Conegliano in three or four sets and win the Golden Set. The circumstances of playing an away game and their track record with Conegliano from this season suggest that the task will definitely be challenging. This is the 5th time in the season that the two teams will face each other with Conegliano winning all encounters and Novara gaining only 1 set. Since the first match in 2013, Novara has won only 1 game played in Palaverde versus Conegliano so far (2018-2019, regular season of Italian A1 league). In the only match played in Palaverde in CEV Champions League competition, Imoco won 3-0 in the pool phase of 2017-2018 season. Overall Novara and Conegliano matched each other 35 times in their history: Conegliano achieved 24 victories, Novara 11. In CEV Champions League games, the balance is 2 victories for Novara and 2 for Conegliano.
The hosts of the second semifinal match are aiming to achieve their 57th consecutive victory, as they have also lost only one match in their last 77 games. Imoco’s great track record is boosted by their history of successful results against Italian teams in the Champions League - they have won eight of their 12 Champions League matches against teams from Italy.
Paola Egonu, MVP last week in Novara with 18 points, is A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO's top scorer this Champions League season with 159 points overall. She is fourth in the ranking of the CEV Champions League 2021 scorers. Malwina Smarzek-Godek is Novara’s top scorer in this season of the Champions League as she’s currently 9th in the top scorers ranking with 119 points. Her team-mate Caterina Bosetti, who was Novara’s best scorer in the first semifinal match, is trailing in the 11th place with 117 points thus far.
Sarah Fahr"Our biggest mistake would be to think that we already have the ticket for the final. Novara will come to Palaverde to play all their chances, they have shown during this season that they can put us in difficulty. To win and qualify to the final we will have to play a tough match, we are working well in the gym to be at the best of our potential.”

Stefano Lavarini“Compared to the home game, for sure we must offer a better performance in any situation. I have some big regrets about the home game, as we played head-to-head for a set and a half, but then we just didn’t fight anymore and at this point of the competition, when you play such a great opponent, you can’t do that. I’ll ask the team to fight and give their best and then we will see what happens”.
coach of Igor Gorgonzola Novara
Daniele Santarelli"Conegliano and Novara know each other very well by now, it is the fifth game between us this season and for some time in the last years we have been playing the most important trophies among ourselves. They will not be the team we saw last week, but they will come here to battle and put us in difficulty from the start of the game. It will take our best performance in all fundamentals of the game if we are to win and hit our goal, the final."
