Overview
The last stretch on a road to #SuperFinals in Verona! VakifBank ISTANBUL and Unet e-work BUSTO ARSIZIO lock horns in the Champions League for the first time. The Turkish powerhouse are the last non-Italian team that have stayed in quest for the Champions League crown. The team led by coach Giovanni Guidetti are still unbeaten in this edition aiming to reach the final for seventh time and to fight for their fifth trophy. On the other side, Unet e-work Busto Arsizio have a chance to qualify to the final for a second time in their fourth campaign in Europe’s top competition. They hope to earn the third medal after bronze from 2013 and silver from 2015. In the quarterfinals the team from Busto defeated Eczacibasi Istanbul twice in four sets, while VakifBank booked their spot defeating Grupa Azoty Chemik Police.
Giovanni Guidetti“We have to make no mistake as we will play our first match against Busto at home. We will play against a very strong Italian team. They won both matches against Eczacibasi. It will be a match that we have to play very well. Because the opponent is really strong. My team deserves to play every final this season. I think we play great volleyball. We prepared for this game in the best way possible.”
head coach of VakifBank Istanbul
Gabi Guimaraes“We will play a really tough match against Busto. They played good in quarterfinals against Eczacibasi.. So we know that we need to play good. They are playing very quick. We will play our first game at home, so we want to use this advantage. Like I said, we will work hard until the first game and study them very good. I'm really excited, because this is my first semifinal in Champions League. This is extra motivation for me. I really want to be the champion of #CLVolleyW!”
