We have to be much more careful. I believe that we will make our fans happy as always with a good team performance and qualify for semi-finals”

“We know that our mission is very tough. A very big challenge is waiting for us. We feel the pressure but we always say that ‘The pressure is a privilege that we deserve’. So the pressure is big because they played an excellent game in the first match. They have very individual and team skills. They don’t make mistakes much. They are very solid and complete in all parts of the game. That’s why it will be a very difficult game for us”

Article

In front of the home crowd, VakifBank was extremely motivated to start the match on a high note. With powerful spikes from Isabelle Haak (8 points in the opener) they quickly earned a three-point lead (5-2) and although Developres tried hard to keep the pace with the Turkish powerhouse, but struggling in reception (21%) and efficiency attack (32%) they couldn't do much. The hosts were improving their advantage further up to seven points at 12-5 and then they dominated on the court even stronger, winning the set by ten points.

Developres Rzeszów started the second set with new energy playing visibly better, but after the good beginning VakifBank showed their strength again jumping ahead at 13-9. Despite staying six points behind at 19-13, the visiting team managed to reduce the gap to three points (20-17) with solid performance from Kara Bajema and Jelena Blagojević (4 points apiece). Coach Guidetti quickly reacted by calling time-out and it helped his team to regain control. Chiaka Ogbogu's spike sealed the deal.

The third set started with a passionate point-by-point race that lasted during the first half of this part. Then, powered by Bruna Honorio (6 points) and Jelena Blagojević (5), Rzeszów took a 17-14 lead. The hosts chased the score constantly to tie at 20-20, but the team under guidance of Stephane Aniga withstood the pressure and prevailed. It was even more impressive as they again struggled again in reception (35%), but the brilliant performance in attack (61%), which delivered them as many as 19 points in the third set, was the key.

Both teams were extremely motivated in the fourth set. It looked that VakifBank might be able to run away with the score again, when they earned a 13-10 lead, but Rzeszów immediately scored three in a row to tie at 13-13. Exchanging hit for hit over the net, the teams continued to play on point-by-point basis. Captain Jelena Blagojević was sparking her teammates to fight scoring seven points, also Kara Bajema found her rhythm (5 points). On the other side of the court Haak (9 points) could count on a big support from Gabi (6) and Bartch-Hackley (4). Thus, they delivered an electrifying battle, but at 23-23 unstoppable Blagojević was blocked by Gunes and Haak to get a first chance to end the match which they used thanks to Gabi's spike.

Haak topped the scorers chart with as many as 28 points, her efforts were recognised with MVP award, however the Swedish star decided to hand her award to Gabi (19 points). Blagojević, who tallied 19 points, was the best scorer of Developres.

"It was a super tough game, we knew that they are a really good team. They have really good defenders. We had to fight for every point. I think we did a great game at the end. Like we handled it good. We showed courage in the tight moments."

Isabelle Haak
opposite of VakifBank Istanbul

"We knew that VakıfBank was the favorite of this match. We came here to try to do our best. We won at our home because we fought until the end. We came here also with this mentality. But in the first set, it is like we were still sitting in the dressing room. Then we started to do what we do in our practices and some results came. We must be happy with this opportunity. We played so well against one of the best clubs in the world. We had some chances but in the end, VakıfBank is Vakıfbank. We should be proud of ourselves. Congratulations to VakıfBank and also congratulations to my teammates as well."

Jelena Blagojević
captain of Developres Rzeszów

"First of all I want to congratulate the player, coach and the technical staff of Rzeszow because they play really well. They put us big trouble in Poland and here. Big respect for them. And sure I want to congratulate my players. We were under big stress. As I expressed before "Pressure is a privilege that we deserve", we are happy that we played under big pressure and we handle it so good."

Giovanni Guidetti
head coach of VakifBank Istanbul

"We came here to get the qualification. We knew It will be extremely difficult. But if you could win 4 sets in total you could win the game too. This year became a great adventure for my team in the Champions League. We did a really good job. Today we lost against the VakıfBank 3-1 and fought very hard in the last set. I am proud of my team. Now we will focus Polish League."

Stephane Antiga
head coach of Developres Rzeszów
